Tucked into a quiet residential neighborhood in a traffic-free zone beneath the Venetian castle in Chora, cozy Ione Inn is a mere 200-meter stroll away from the cafés, tavernas, and shops of Naxos Town’s port promenade, and 750 meters from the ferry dock.

An elevator a few steps from its courtyard gate takes you up to the 13th-century fort with its museums, historic churches, and galleries overlooking the harbor — the perfect starting point for exploring this ancient settlement’s Cycladic charms and rich history. A leisurely 12-minute walk away are the crystalline shallows of the town’s lovely beachfront. A quick trip south along the same shoreline by public bus or car takes you to the island’s most spectacular beaches and quaint airport.

Built in traditional Cycladic style, the inn’s welcoming rooms accommodate between two and five guests. Each is thoughtfully furnished and equipped with modern comforts, including free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a private bathroom, a kitchenette with refrigerator, television, and a balcony or veranda.

Centrally located Ione Inn is an excellent base for discovering the island and wandering the labyrinth of slate-stone paved alleyways and whitewashed sugar-cube houses of picturesque Old Town, where the past survives and thrives in a Greek postcard setting.

Getting here

Ione Inn is in a car-free area beneath the Venetian castle. There are stairs to climb on the 10-minute, 750-meter walk from the ferry dock along the harbor front and up through old town. A 15-minute stair-free walk with a more gradual rise circumvents old town to the north. A two-minute taxi ride from the port (7 minutes from the airport) takes you to within 100 meters of the inn.

A word from your hosts

The lodging formerly known as Depis Castle Luxury Apartments, Renata, and Renetta has welcomed guests for decades. Now its tradition of hospitality continues under a new name, Ione, pronounced eee-OH-nee. A mythological nymph, Ione is also ancient Greek for violet flower.

Ione Inn is owner-managed by Uta and Tom Green. Lifelong admirers of Hellas and its culture, this German-American couple realized their retirement dream of renovating a small hotel on the most beautiful of Aegean islands.
